How Fit Are You? Try the Rockport Walking Test
The Rockport Fitness Walking Test is one of the best tests for cardio fitness. It works out your VO2max - your maximum possible oxygen consumption.
Take the Test
- Measure out a 1 mile (1609 meters) route. You need to be accurate
- Warm up with a slow walk for about 1 mile.
- Walk the 1 mile as fast as you can. You cannot run.
- Record your time to walk 1 mile in minutes and seconds.
- Immediately take your pulse and record it. Take your pulse for 15 seconds and multiply it by 4.
- Enter your data into the calculator below. The calculator determines your VO2Max and compares that to standards for your gender and age group to tell you your fitness level.
